HBO is planning to increase its number of original titles, by 50% to nearly 600 hours.
HBO invests $2 billion in programming, half of it in original TV and movies and the other half used to license films. They include such titles as Game of Thrones, Veep, Vinyl, Girls, Togetherness, The Leftovers, Animals and Silicon Valley.
Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes told investors this week a daily news series from Vice Media and shows from Jon Stewart were “aimed at millennials” and will play well on mobile devices.
Referring also to the Warner Bros. division of theatrical films he noted, “It’s going to be another record year.
“We’ve got a big slate of new franchise films coming out and, as we all have seen, big tentpole global franchises have a bigger share of box office.”
